A diploma course in engineering includes:

  • The learning of basic engineering concepts in detail.
  • It offers all the base subjects such as electrical engineering, electronics engineering, civil engineering, and computer and IT engineering, just like a degree course does.
  • It offers all the base subjects such as electrical engineering, electronics engineering, civil engineering, and computer and IT engineering, just like a degree course does.

Diploma courses can be of a yearly or semester pattern. In case of yearly pattern, the courses have duration of three years. The diploma course that follows a semester design have a planned duration of four years where in it has three years of academic curriculum and one year of industrial internship.
The syllabus of a diploma program and of the B.Tech or BE program is more or less similar, but the level of curriculum is higher in the latter. However, the students who take up diploma have an advantage as they are likely to already have solid base knowledge of the fundamentals and basics of the program when compared to the B.Tech or BE students who directly enter after their twelfth class.
There are a number of students who enroll in a diploma in the engineering program just because it permits them to opt for the second year of Bachelor of Engineering degree program. That is why it is also called as the backdoor to degree engineering.
So all in all, everything depends on our choice and interest and how do we prove ourselves in the chosen field.
