About Dental Science
Dental Science is the branch of medical science deals with the study of disease or disorders related to teeth and gums. It also deals with structure, development, abnormalities, diagnosis prevention, and treatment of disease related to teeth, gums, cells and tissues or mouth.
The word dentistry derived from Odontology from ancient Greek word odious, “tooth. Odontology stands for the study of the structure, development, and abnormalities of the teeth.
As this is an undergraduate degree in Dental Surgery, the time duration to complete the degree ranges from three to five years among various Universities and depending upon the internship. This course can be pursued as correspondence or through distance learning also; this also affects the duration of course.
What is Bachelor of Dental Science [BDS]?
The Bachelor of Dental Science is divided into two or more semesters. The methodology of study involves Classroom lectures and seminars; Demonstration, Lab techniques, group discussions etc. Dental Materials, Oral Pathology, Pedodontics, Oral Medicines and Radiology, Community dentistry, surgical Procedures are some of the basic subjects and topics that have been undertaken in the course.
- One should behave completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as main subjects of study.
- Minimum 50% aggregate is mandatory to pursue this course.
- One should clear AIPMT conducted by CBSE or state level entrance exam to enroll for this course
- One should take admission in college which is recognized by DCI.
